A desk located under the top bunk, it saves you the space of having both a bed and a desk!
Bunk beds with stairs – these days, bunk beds come with a great safety feature! Instead of having to climb up and down a ladder, manufacturers thought of a brilliant way to add safe stairs that they can step up! This is much easier and safer for your children! Not only that, but bunk beds with stairs usually come with additional functions such as drawers! The stairs usually can be used as sliding drawers as well!
Bunk beds with various furniture add-ons – Drawers, dressers, and additional beds are three very popular add-ons. Most of the add-ons will provide extra space for you to put away your children’s toys! Believe me, when furnishing a children’s bedroom, some extra storage space comes in very handy!

Choosing The Right Bunk Bed Mattress

We all know how important it is to buy the right kind of mattress. A mattress that is too hard, too soft, or just plain uncomfortable can make for a long night, and the next day can be even worse. Bad mattresses can lead to back and neck pain, sleepless nights, and even long-term health problems. Selecting the mattress that works best for you is a big deal, and bunk bed mattresses are no exception. In fact, due to the bunk bed’s unique design, it’s even more important to make sure you buy the right kind of mattress for your bunk bed.
When shopping for a bunk bed mattress, the first thing you’ll want to do is find out exactly what size of mattress you need. You need to get a mattress that will fit snugly into your bunk bed’s frame, and taking measurements will help you figure out what size will work best. When it comes to bunk bed mattresses, size definitely matters.
Choosing a mattress that is too small for the bunk bed frame can be a major safety hazard, particularly for children. A child’s head, arm, or leg can become stuck in the space between the bunk bed frame and the too-small mattress, which is extremely dangerous. So take some measurements, and pin down exactly which size mattress will fit your bunk bed frame so that no open space is left around the edges.
choosing right bunk bed mattress
As with all mattresses, once you’ve determined which size you want, you’ll want to find something comfortable. Shopping for the bunk bed matresses really comes down to personal preference, so spend a few minutes lying on several different mattresses before you select one. There are two basic types of mattresses to choose from: innerspring or foam. Innerspring mattresses are the more common of the two, and these types of mattresses rely on wire coils to determine firmness and durability.
Generally, the wider the coil, the firmer the mattress will be. Foam mattresses, on the other hand, have no coils, and are made up completely of foam. These mattresses have become more popular over the years, especially with memory foam available.
If you decide to go with a foam mattress, keep in mind that the quality of the foam can make a big difference in comfort and support, and prices can vary widely with these mattresses. Either of these mattress types can work for your bunk bed; again, it’s really a matter of personal preference.
With both innerspring and foam mattresses, one of the biggest components that separates a good mattress from a bad one is the padding on top. Some mattress manufacturers refer to this as the “comfort layer,” and this is really a fitting name. Having sufficient padding to separate you from your mattress springs can make all the difference in comfort with an innerspring mattress. Good padding is also a must if you opt for a foam mattress. Soft, quality padding will give you the comfort for a restful night.
With both innerspring and foam mattresses, look for padding that is soft and thick. Lie down for a while, give both mattress types a try, and see what feels good. It’s also important to note the material of the top layer of the mattress, or the quilt. Quilts with cotton blends are known for allowing the mattress to “breathe,” and this can lead to more comfortable sleeping and a longer-lasting mattress.
Finding a good mattress for your kids bunk bed is not hard to do, and you should make it a priority. A comfortable mattress that fits snugly into the bed’s frame and offers good support will be your best option, and will assure you many restful nights.

Advantages to a Bunk Bed

So by now, I’m sure the thought of purchasing a bunk bed for a child has crossed every parent’s mind. Some of the obvious advantages are that it saves space, sometimes saves money, and kids love it. While these advantages alone are enough to convince many into purchasing a bunk bed, let’s look deeper into the saving money aspect of the advantages.
A bunk bed is typically desired due to some crowding in bedrooms. As a kid, having grown up in a fairly small room myself, a bunk bed was something that I fancied quite often. When I was about 8 years old, my parents finally bought me and my brother a bunk bed. It was a rather simple bunk bed, no hip theme on it. It was a manufactured wooden bunk bed. Everything about it looked sturdy and my brother and I were more excited than ever.
Unfortunately, it turns out my parents had something else in mind. We had purchased a bunk bed with the intentions of not using it as a bunk bed. A traditional bunk bed is usually stackable or you can split the bunk bed apart and make two twin beds. By doing so, my parents were able to save some money. A traditional twin size bed, including mattress could easily cost much more than a twin over twin bunk bed. While I never understood why we couldn’t just use it as a bunk bed, I now understand why my parents decided on a bunk bed. Saving money was a major priority for my family and this was one of many ways to save money when furnishing our home.
Here are some guide tips for when you are looking to save money on a bunk bed. If you have already looked into bunk beds, you probably realized the great range of bunk bed prices. You’ll find that traditional twin over twin bunk beds are fairly cheaper than the newer modern bunk beds with desks and dresser attachments. You might have also found that wooden bunk beds tend to be slightly more expensive than metal ones. Prices range from $400 all the way up $1000+. If some of these prices are out of your range, no worries. There is also another alternative to a bunk bed, which is to build your own bunk bed. If you are handy and familiar with woodwork, it should be fairly easy and very cheap.
Whichever option you go with, there are multiple ways to save money with bunk beds. If you are in need of furnishing your children’s room at a lower cost, look into bunk beds!
